PERSONAL STORY: LISA HAMSTAD
When I was 27 I started having "female problems". Along with the female problems
I gained around 40 lbs in what seemed like overnight. I went to doctors with my
complaints on periods that would take me to the floor with pain. Finally after 5
years of going to the doctor with no results and being diagnosed with venereal
diseases, which later proved to be negative, I called a women's clinic in the
metro area. I explained my problems and found out I had endometriosis. I also had
a cyst on my ovary. The doctor asked me if I would like any more kids. NO!! I
had 2 already and I was happy with that. No more pain please. He ordered a
hysterectomy. That was in 1998. I felt like a new woman.
Now I am having pain again. I went to a doctor who specializes in PolyCystic Ovarian
Syndrome. I found her on the internet. It looks like I am finally getting answers.
I have hope that I can feel good again soon. She said there is medication to help
me with my weight (due in part to insulin resistance). I hope I can stop this
madness soon and look in the mirror one day and recognize myself again!
